NMRC’s YEAR ENDER FOR 2020

The year 2020 was quite an eventful year for the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC). This year, NMRC introduced a lot of new initiatives like Pink Stations and Pride Station. Following is a brief overview of the major events and accomplishments of NMRC in the year 2020

24th - 25th January: NMRC celebrated the Completion of the first year of its successful operations on the Aqua Line. NMRC organized a two-day event to celebrate the occasion which included Sports and Cultural events.

7th- 12th February: NMRC provided additional facilities on the Aqua Line to facilitate the visitors of the Auto Expo which was organized at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida. The facilities provided by NMRC included increase in frequency of the Metro trains, sale of Auto Expo tickets at Aqua Line Metro Stations and deployment of E – Rickshaws from Knowledge Park – II Station to Auto Expo Venue.

10th February: NMRC earned the highest revenue of Rs. 12,11,380/- on a single day. The ridership of NMRC on this day was 38, 571.

February 2020: In order to boost non- fare box revenue, NMRC came out with a policy to rent out its coaches to the general public for birthday parties, pre-wedding celebrations and other small functions. The aim behind the Policy is to develop NMRC as the unique destination for Birthday and Pre-Wedding Celebrations for residents of Noida and Greater Noida. 8th March: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, NMRC gave a special gift to all the women passengers of the Aqua Line by unveiling two stations of Aqua Line Corridor namely Sector 76 and Pari Chowk Metro Stations as Pink Stations. These stations have a number of additional facilities like Baby Feeding Room, Baby Diaper Changing Room and Make Up / Changing Room and Selfie point. All these facilities are available for all women passengers completely free of cost. Approximately 23% of the total workforce of NMRC comprises of women employees.

22nd March: In line with the message of Hon'ble Prime Minister in respect of "Janta Curfew" on March 22, 2020, NMRC decided not to run its Metro Train services on Sunday, 22nd March 2020.

22nd March: NMRC decided to suspend its metro train services up to 31st March 2020 in view of the Covid 19 pandemic and the subsequent guidelines issued by the Government of India.

30th March: NMRC contributed Rs. 11 Lakhs (Rupees Eleven Lakhs) to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. The amount was collected after NMRC employees decided to donate their two day’s basic salary. The cheque was personally handed over to Shri Yogi Adityanath, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh by Mrs. Ritu Maheshwari, Managing Director / NMRC.

31st March: In view of the 21-day lockdown implemented by the Government of India NMRC suspended its Metro Train services till 14th April 2020. However, regular cleanliness, maintenance and upkeep of the trains, stations and other systems associated with the smooth functioning of the Metro was done on a regular basis by a dedicated team of NMRC Officers and Staff.

14th April: In view of the announcement by Hon’ble Prime Minister to extend the lockdown in the country till 3rd May 2020, services of all trains of the Aqua Line continued to remain suspended till 3rd May 2020.

18th May: In view of the announcement by the Government of India on 17th May 2020 to extend the lockdown in the country till 31st May 2020 services of all trains of NMRC’s Aqua Line continued to remain suspended till 31st May 2020.

29th May: NMRC conducted a Mock Drill at Sector 51 Metro Station to check and assess NMRC’s preparedness for beginning Metro operations.

6th September: Shri Praveen Mishra, ED / NMRC conducted a detailed inspection of the preparedness of the Aqua Line before resuming operations on 7th September 2020 after the lockdown from 22nd March 2020. Shri Mishra inspected all the systems essential in smooth functioning of the Metro system in detail. He also checked the preparedness of NMRC staff deployed at the stations to handle the rush of passengers and ensuring the adherence to the guidelines.

7th September: NMRC successfully commenced partial operations on the Aqua Line operating the trains from 7 AM to 11 AM in the morning and 5 PM to 7 PM at a frequency of 15 minutes.

11th September: NMRC organised a Drawing / Painting Competition for its employees and a Plantation Drive in NMRC’s Depot premises in Greater Noida as part of the commemorative activities that have been planned by NMRC in line with the decision by the Government of India to commemorate the 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

12th September: NMRC commenced full operations on the Aqua Line operating the trains from 6 AM to 10 PM from Monday to Saturday and 8 AM to 10 PM on Sundays. The frequency of trains was 7.5 minutes during peak hours and 10 minutes during non-peak hours and 15 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays.

15th September: NMRC organized a workshop for NMRC’s staff to sensitise them towards the Transgender Community. The Workshop was organised by Nazariya, an NGO that works closely with the Transgender Community helps in generating awareness in the society regarding the Transgender Community and helps in addressing their concerns.

September, 2020: NMRC conducted the in-house induction and departmental training for the newly recruited technical contractual staff through M/s BECIL to train and equip them with regard to metro operations. NMRC conducts refresher training for all NMRC staff with in-house capabilities and resources.

27th October: NMRC dedicated its Sector – 50 Metro Station to the Transgender Community. This station was unveiled as “Pride Station” by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Gautam Buddha Nagar, U. P. and Shri Pankaj Singh, Hon’ble MLA, Noida, U. P. in the presence of Smt. Ritu Maheshwari, Managing Director / NMRC and CEO (Noida Authority). It is a first of its kind initiative introduced by a Metro system in Northern India. This step has been taken by NMRC for the inclusion and meaningful participation of the members of the transgender community. The “Pride” station, though dedicated to the Transgender Community, is open for all passengers. NMRC has also provided employment opportunities for the Transgender Community. At present 06 members from the Transgender Community are employed at the “Pride Station”

4th – 5th November: NMRC celebrated its 6th Foundation Day with a two-day celebration including Annual Sports Competition and a colourful cultural programme at its Depot in Greater Noida. MD / NMRC felicitated the NMRC employees who had performed exceedingly well in the past one year. These employees received the prestigious MD Award by MD / NMRC. MD / NMRC also gave the Award for ‘Metro Man of the Year’ to Mr. Sudhir Kumar Prasad / Train Operator, ‘Metro Woman of the Year’ to Ms. Prerna Priya / Station Controller and the ‘Best Cleaned / Maintained Station Award’ to Pari Chowk Metro Station.

4th December: NMRC and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) signed an Agreement under which NMRC will be engaging DMRC for the services as General Consultants (GC) / Project Management Consultants (PMC) for its Phase – II project from Noida Sector -51 Noida to Greater Noida Sector – 2.

14th December: NMRC achieved the highest ridership of 9822 after reopening of metro services after the lockdown on 7th September 2020.

December, 2020: To honor the contribution of our Armed Forces and for commemorating “Gaurav Maah”, NMRC has made a contribution of Rs. 79,400/- (Rupees Seventy Nine Thousand Four Hundred Only) towards Armed Forces Flag Day Fund (AFFDF). NMRC as a responsible metro organization is regularly making appeal to its commuters for voluntary contribution to AFFDF through public announcements at metro stations and Inside Trains and through standies/posters at Metro Stations. Further a video on Armed Forces Flag Day is also being broadcasted on regular basis at the display screen at the metro stations
