Launch of e-cycles under the last mile connectivity initiative of Noida Metro Rail Corporation Limited

Today on 20th December, 2019, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Dr. Mahesh Sharma & Mrs. Ritu Maheshwari, Managing Director, NMRC & CEO Noida Authority flagged off the services of e-cycles as part of the green initiative to provide last mile connectivity to the commuters of the Aqua Line corridor of NMRC.

Noida Metro Rail Corporation has partnered with consortium of UTU Mobility Pvt Ltd & Chartered bike to install a full capacity electric peddle assist bike system. Noida Authority is also going to connect with another 62 locations to the system which when complete can make Noida the first city in the world to have a 100% electric bike system, Greater Noida is also in process to connect the same in their city and are in the hunt to become the first operational city in the world also using NMRC stations.

This project will include electric bicycles with peddle assist feature for last mile connectivity for its users and will provide a greener way of transportation for the city. All the e-cycles under this initiative will have app-based lock unlock system, GPS tracking and digital payment facility. Initially the e-cycles will be installed at 4 NMRC Noida stations in Noida Area (Sector 51, 50, 71 and 101) and 4 at Greater Noida (Knowledge Park 2, Pari Chowk, Alfa 1 and Delta). Each station will have a capacity of 30 e-cycles and Noida citizens can register to get their personal cycles also registered on the system along with getting a smart lock. As per norms these e-cycles require no helmets or license and can be used by any person older than 15 years and would be available from 06:00 AM to 11:00 PM i.e. during the metro revenue operation timings. For the benefit of the users NMRC and UTU Mobility has decided to keep the renting rates initially at Rs. 5 per 10 minutes and thereafter Rs.1 for each subsequent minute making it one of the worlds cheapest electric bike share program. There will be membership plans and reward programs that will also help users to get great deals while commuting

User need to follow the following steps to avail the e-cycle service

  • User needs to register on the Green Ride application on play store
  • Find a e cycle near by

  • Find a station near by to drop the bike
  • Park and End the ride

The application will also give access to use cycles in Delhi, Kota, Jaipur among other cities where similar system is present by the group

All e-cycles are being made in Noida itself. UTU Mobility pvt. ltd also plans to connect 62 DMRC stations to the network which will provide users to use the bikes across the complete NCR in 2020. UTU Mobility and NMRC will offer residential societies, markets, corporate towers to register and get a station built near them so that they can leave the e-cycles free. The RWA around Sector 51, 50 and 76 metro stations can send a request to NMRC and get free stations at their locality on first come first serve basis. At full capacity the system will reduce CO2 emissions by more than 1000 tonnes a year.

This system is more advanced that the systems in London, New York or any other international city with its concept of having only electric cycles as those cities have primarily peddle bicycles.

Other initiatives under the last mile connectivity by NMRC

In addition to the e-cycles, NMRC is presently running 50 CNG AC low floor buses on different routes in Noida and Greater Noida as well as 50 paid e-rickshaws services are in operation at different metro station under multi modal integration of last mile connectivity initiative by NMRC. NMRC also provides free e-rickshaw service to its commuters to provide seamless connectivity between sector 51 station of aqua line corridor of NMRC and Sector 52 station of blue line corridor of DMRC.

RIDERSHIP AND REVENUE FIGURES OF NOIDA-GREATER NOIDA CORRIDOR (AQUA LINE)

During the month of November, 2019, the Average Daily Ridership stood at 22059 and the Average Daily Revenue stood at INR 6,44, 640.
